A platform for converging research, encounters and field studies amongst artists, writers and other makers, mostly operating online. Correct me if I’m wrong marks the second chapter and presents a series of commissioned podcasts that will be broadcasted from the site beginning in the spring of 2019. This new iteration of echo(es) looks into the possibilities of audio reporting as a space for overlapping investigative and speculative storytelling. Reporting is traditionally a form of fieldwork – journalism that mediates through personal encounter. We want to approach this as an elastic form that can explore politics of speech and law-making. We will be reporting from studios, spaces of self-study, areas of obsessive making and observing. We do this for the purpose of reporting something, of sharing insights or unformed ideas: what contracts, what settlements will this require, with ourselves, a subject, time or place?
EPISODE 1Getting Lighter, Still Labour-Intensive (a reading)Chapter 1 (19:05)Chapter 2 (forthcoming)
Between December 2018 and February 2019, we held a number of conversations around the topics of work, leisure and the changing nature of industry in Hong Kong with Master WONG, a retiring letterpress craftsman who was in the process of selling his machine for good. Via the hypnotic hum of his letterpress, accompanied by the sound of idle, fellow workers engaging in a few rounds of mahjong, we happened upon the idea to stage another discussion during a mahjong game among four artists who have been involved to various degrees with publishing. The script generated from our research and these dialogues form the basis of Getting Lighter, Still Labour-Intensive (a reading), to be released in two chapters for correct me if I'm wrong in the Spring of 2019. An edited version of the script has also been included in Publication Studio Portable: A Mobile Publishing Manual, published by Publication Studio Pearl River Delta and Publication Studio Rotterdam.
Getting Lighter, Still Labour-Intensive (a reading) has been commissioned by Verina GFADER and Ruth HÖFLICH of echo(es) and additionally supported by Design Trust (Hong Kong).
